Blood Pressure Monitor Check-Out Program


Available at all NCW Library Locations in Chelan, Douglas, Grant and Okanogan Counties

In partnership with the North Central Washington (NCW) Library system the Blood Pressure Monitor Check-Out Program provides a blood pressure monitor kit to any library card holder over the age of 18. Library cardholders can check out a blood pressure monitor kit for up to two weeks to self-monitor their blood pressure.

The kit includes:

  • One automatic blood pressure monitor

  • Instructions and materials on how to take your blood pressure

  • Materials on what blood pressure numbers mean and other health education materials

  • Cleaning supplies

  • A participant survey

The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program supports people with different or multiple chronic health problems (e.g. heart disease, hypertension, stroke, respiratory disease, etc.). The program is led by trained and certified peers with first-hand experience. We discuss techniques on how to deal with frustration, isolation, appropriate exercise, fatigue, pain, medication management, emotion management and much more. Mutual support and success build participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives. The information provided has been reviewed by professionals who are experts on the subject.

  • Meet once a week for 2.5 hours over the course of 6 weeks

The Chronic Pain Self-Management Program was developed for people who have a primary or secondary diagnosis of chronic pain. Pain is defined as being chronic or long term when it lasts for longer than 3 to 6 months, or beyond the normal healing time of an injury. Examples of chronic pain conditions are chronic musculo-skeletal pain, fibromyalgia, whiplash injuries, chronic regional pain syndromes, chronic pelvic pain, post-surgical pain that lasts beyond 6 months, neuropathic pain, or neuralgias, post stroke pain, persistent headache, Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome, diabetic neuropathy, or those who experience severe muscular pain due to conditions such as multiple sclerosis. The program is led by trained and certified peers with first-hand experience. We discuss dealing with frustration, fatigue, isolation, poor sleep, appropriate exercise, appropriate use of medications and much more. The information provided has been reviewed by professionals who are experts on the subject.

The Diabetes Self-Management Program supports people with all types of diabetes. The program is led by trained and certified peers with first-hand experience. We discuss techniques to deal with the symptoms of diabetes, fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress, and all of the emotional problems associated with this disease. Mutual support and success build participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives. Our material has been reviewed by physicians, diabetes educators, dietitians, and other health professionals who are experts on the subject.

The WA Cares Fund is a new program designed to provide Washington workers with affordable, long-term care coverage. Most of us will need some form of long-term care in our lifetime, yet few have a way to pay for it.
